Arboreal Laboratory

Article text
While working in King’s Wood over two years (2002-2004), Edwina fitzPatrick carried out a series of experiments into the sensory aspects of the forest. This book acts as a record of her enquiries. The ring-bound continuous format allows the book to open at any of its four sections, echoing the continuum of the seasons. FitzPatrick investigates the sounds and smells of the forest and poses the questions of the musician and scientist.

She also asks writer and curator Paul Bonaventura, ‘Why do artists want to make the invisible visible?’, creating a dialogue around her investigations in which she invites us to participate. This publication is a unique archive of her research and experiments, which are illustrated with video clips, photographs, musical scores and scent. It is a perfumed book
